Happy National Sugar Day Halloween! I posted tips the other day to keep you from eating all the Halloween candy. I didn’t want to leave you with no alternatives though. That would be mean. So, in honor of Halloween, I present a delicious sweet sweet treat: my chocolate almond coconut smoothie.

I love smoothies, although I really don’t drink them as much as I would like. Hopefully that will change when my husband surprises me with a Vitamix this Christmas. (At least he’s been hinting that I’ll be getting one.) Regular blenders can handle a smoothie, but it’s hard on them. It takes forever, and the blender is difficult enough to clean that I don’t want to do it. That said, this chocolate almond coconut smoothie is so good that I will usually suffer through the clean up for the reward.

So, tonight great the trick-or-treators with your chocolate almond coconut smoothie in hand (you may even want to put it in a wine glass to feel extra special). Feel free to feel a little sorry for them when they just get the candy. Trusty me, you won’t want the candy bars at all if you’ve got this smoothie!

Recipe: Chocolate Almond Coconut Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 Tbs cacao powder
  • 1 1/2 cups almond milk (unsweetened)
  • 2 Tbs coconut
  • 1 tsp palm sugar (add a little more if needed)
  • 1 Tbs chia seeds (optional, but yummy)

Instructions

  1. Slice the banana into smaller chunks.
  2. Put the banana, cacao powder, almond milk, coconut, and palm sugar in the blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into your favorite glass and sprinkle the chia seeds on top.

Variations

If you don’t have palm sugar, use agave nectar, honey, or steevia.
